Janet E. Johnson, MD, MPH
Dr. Johnson received her MD at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and completed her psychiatric residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans , Louisiana . Following her residency, she completed a two year fellowship in schizophrenia research at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York , New York . Dr. Johnson joined the faculty at Tulane University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1996 and is currently an Associate Professor there. Dr. Johnson received her MPH from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in August, 2000 and was an Adjunct Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of International Health and Development from May, 2001 to January 2006.
Dr. Johnson's clinical and research interests have focused on the chronically mentally ill, in particular schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients, and she has presented and published numerous times on these subjects. She also has interests in alternative healing methods and spirituality and medicine and has facilitated courses on these topics. She is currently working as the Associate Medical Director for the LSU Healthcare Authority Psychiatric Inpatient Hospital , and as a service provider to the New Orleans Musicians Clinic. She also serves as the Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry for Tulane University Medical School and is involved in teaching residents and medical students. Dr. Johnson has been involved in numerous community activities aimed at re-building New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Johnson served as a consultant to Mercy Corps for their psychosocial response to Hurricane Katrina. She is currently serving as a Senior Technical Advisor for Mercy Corps for the psychosocial response to the Sichuan Earthquake in China . |
